We Deliver by Daniel Patrick Cohen

We are excited to share our upcoming release with composer Daniel Patrick Cohen! A sprawling and surprisingly epic endeavour, We Deliver is a smorgasbord of musical diary entries composed across seven years. Featuring an extensive list of collaborators, this beyond-personal project both reflects the history of its creator and embodies his lovingly crafted questions about the past, present & future of the album as a musical form.

The album is available for pre order now, and will be released 16th of September.

Max Andrzejewski’s Mythos

We are very excited that new album by Max Andrzejewski is being released on Backlash 4th of March 2022! It will be available as a pre-order (with the obligatory sneak peak) already this week, and we encourage you to check it out. The beautiful cover is made by Ragnar Jónsson who also plays cello on the recording.

Combining both composed and improvised elements and performed played by a 12 piece ensemble, the music is born out of Max’ violent interaction with Richard Wagners infamous Ring Cycle. In Mythos, Max has created an hyper imaginative work that deals with the artistic remains of a much heralded prophet of classical music the way it maybe should be dealt with: scrap it and leave it for parts.

Lokkur coming 26th of November!

A new release with Berglind María Tómasdóttir is right around the corner, and we are excited to present a Backlash incarnation of her legendary Lokkur project. Lokkur is an ancient Icelandic folk instrument, its sound being the essence of the islands lonesome musical spirit, so cherished on the international music scene. The instrument, first documented in old woven tapestry, is exclusively played and promoted in modern times by Berlind Maria. The instrument is also entirely fictional. The album is currently available as a pre- order, and will be released 26th of November 2021.

Backlash Music Podcast

Our brand new podcast about all things Backlash has finally arrived. On the podcast we will share the stories and ideas behind our albums, interviews with the artists involved, some enthusiastic talk of music we love and possibly some weirder things we are not yet ready to share (or have not thought of yet).

In the first episode producer Johann and violinist Artiom talk about living, playing, good music, chamber music and sex, and of course - the very first Backlash album.

The podcast can be found where you listen to podcasts.

Several pieces of coloured material, although I am for a plain sheet* (UPCOMING ALBUM)

Another album that is in the works: Several pieces of coloured material, although I am for a plain sheet*.

Music by:

Domenico Gabrielli
Jan Werner
Michael Rauter

«The 7 Ricercari by Domenico Gabrielli belong to the first pieces for cello solo, written in 1689. „Fetzen“ is a cycle of 19 short pieces for Cello and Tape by Jan St Werner and myself. Jan made a series of short sound structures that are based on my cello sounds. I wrote cello parts for each of them. One piece is about 1 min. long.» Mr. Rauter.

Landscapes, Knifes and Glue - Radiohead’s KID A Recycled (release 4th of June)

We are currently working hard on our next release: Landscapes, Knifes and Glue - Radiohead’s KID A Recycled

arr. Ian Anderson/Wooden Elephant

Wooden Elephant create totally acoustic versions of classic electronic-based albums, presenting them in their entirety as long-form contemporary classical compositions.

Kid A famously combined Radiohead’s alternative rock music of OK Computer with the electronic stylings of Warp Records artists to devastating effect. We wanted to pay tribute to this era-defining album on its 20th anniversary by introducing it to yet another genre of music — that of contemporary classical music — with all the changes that demands.
