Works for Piano & Clarinet by Bernstein, Berg and Geppert
This release features the world premiere recording of David Geppert's Sonata for Piano and Clarinet. Geppert (1921-2017) worked on his Clarinet Sonata, Op.72, for half-a-century: a one-movement Rhapsody, created and originally performed in Kansas in 1949, was augmented with a full-length Scherzo in 1996. Four years later, Geppert wrote the brief Interlude and inserted it between the two earlier movements, revising the whole sonata thoroughly in the process. The score used for this performance follows the handwritten manuscript from the final revision in 2002.
